Turmeric Tuesday Aug. 20th, 2019

by Andrew

Howdy FOLKS! Sorry we have been away for a bit, actually too long from here. But we have been exploring other social media platforms in the meanwhile. So, we hope we are back on the regular to our original blog. Please be patient with us.

This summer we played in our little garden a bit. The Summer heat did not agree with me personally this year, so the minimum was all that happened. We had a small crop of potatoes, onions, garlic, and asparagus this year. Our small square foot garden concept is perfect for us. At the moment, many variety of peppers are coming on strong and soon, we will be doing all kinds of things with them, from dehydrating them, to freezing them, some pickling and YES, fermenting some peppers. Hence why we are here today! I just tried this recipe that I wanted to share on this Turmeric Tuesday for fermented onion relish with onions, bell pepper and TURMERIC. I added a small jalapeno without the seeds to my version. This recipe gives the benefits of all it ingredients plus the added benefit of the probiotics from the ferment. Enjoy!!

It's SO good, you won't be disappointed in this special condiment full of probiotics. It's healthy, boosts the immune system, and it's delicious! Last Turmeric Tuesday of Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

by Andrew

On this final Turmeric Tuesday of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we have lots to share!

As always, please see our Pinterest boards weekly for new recipes for using turmeric everyday!

And with only two days left of fund raising for Breast Cancer Awareness month, we’d like to share a couple wins for us this month! First, we received very generous donation from Shirley A. Harr in memory of her daughter and a long time friend of mine, Amy K Harr whom the world lost in February to breast cancer. Secondly, one of our clients, Bobbie Bingham, wanted to “Pay it Forward” to help raise money for this project. She held a Facebook fund raiser for her birthday and we just received a $550 donation from that event! Thanks Bobbie and all who supported her endeavor.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

by Andrew

Here’s wishing everyone a very Happy New Year for 2018! As we enter into our FIFTH year of our project, we want to really grow in 2018 to help even more folks with cancer. Let’s start with bringing back #TurmericTuesday in a big way. Turmeric has shown to reduce inflammation in the body and help fight free radicals, reducing the cancer risks to many folks around the world, according to many leading nutritionists.

Here’s a recipe from https://www.rebeccakatz.com/.

It’s loaded with turmeric and with the current frigid temperatures across our nation at the moment, it’ll sure keep you warm.

Make a cup or two today and we recommend the almond milk version.

Turmeric Tuesday for 09.05.17

#juicingforcancer

#gardeningforcancer

Sorry we missed last week’s post for Turmeric Tuesday. We were called out of town on business, but here are again on this lovely September day. Today, we gathered a few ingredients from our square foot garden that are great juicing or blending ingredients, especially when you are trying to keep the sugars on the low end of the spectrum. Choose more savory juices and smoothies, rather than sticky sweet ones. Add small amounts of turmeric root like the one pictured below in the center of our garden bounty. (No we are not growing turmeric yet, but we have started the experiment by placing three small roots in a cool, dark area of the house to try to sprout.) Usually we add about a half inch piece of a medium sized root to the juicer. It will stain the juicer. It will never be the same, but no worries. The healthy kick you get from the turmeric is well worth the stained devise.

Check out this link for some great benefits of turmeric and how to use it while juicing or blending.

Pictured here is a turmeric that we bought at the grocery store. Surrounding the root is produce from our square foot garden: cucumbers, pear tomatoes, parsley and HOLY BASIL, a powerhouse of nutrition itself.
