Sorry we missed last week’s post for Turmeric Tuesday. We were called out of town on business, but here are again on this lovely September day. Today, we gathered a few ingredients from our square foot garden that are great juicing or blending ingredients, especially when you are trying to keep the sugars on the low end of the spectrum. Choose more savory juices and smoothies, rather than sticky sweet ones. Add small amounts of turmeric root like the one pictured below in the center of our garden bounty. (No we are not growing turmeric yet, but we have started the experiment by placing three small roots in a cool, dark area of the house to try to sprout.) Usually we add about a half inch piece of a medium sized root to the juicer. It will stain the juicer. It will never be the same, but no worries. The healthy kick you get from the turmeric is well worth the stained devise.

Check out this link for some great benefits of turmeric and how to use it while juicing or blending.

Pictured here is a turmeric that we bought at the grocery store. Surrounding the root is produce from our square foot garden: cucumbers, pear tomatoes, parsley and HOLY BASIL, a powerhouse of nutrition itself.
