Turmeric Tuesday for 02.21.17

Howdy fellow juicers and blenders, healthy eater, and cancer thrivers,

Here’s our Turmeric Tuesday recipe(s). Enjoy! And remember, it’s so easy to add just a dash of turmeric to almost anything you are eating. Just remember that the presence of black pepper and/or a healthy fat like olive or coconut oil, nuts, or avocados greatly increases the bio-availability (according to most researchers) of the curcumin in turmeric.

This recipe comes from a Pinterest page called GrowForageCookFerment (http://www.growforagecookferment.com/how-to-make-a-turmeric-bug/) .

Our version of an Immunity Boosting Broth

by Andrew
Immunity Boosting Broth, our version
When either of us starts to feel a little under the weather, we turn to food to bring us back to our norm. Through a combination of juicing, blending and just eating good, wholesome foods like broths and soups, we mange to kick the crud out of the house. At any given time, we have many quarts of Magic Mineral Broth, the awesome base broth from Rebecca Katz’s cookbook The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen (see her page https://www.facebook.com/Rebecca-Ka…) and we use it often for soups, stews, cooking vegetables and greens and so on. But, we really love Tom Yum Thai soup for a healing and cleansing soup. To make our version of an immunity boosting broth, we offer you this recipe.
2 to 3 quarts of Magic Mineral Broth or other organic vegetable stock (http://www.rebeccakatz.com/magic-mi…)
In a medium stockpot, add to the above stock:
4 smashed, but unpeeled garlic cloves
2 to 3 entire stalks of lemongrass, cut on the bias into one inch pieces
2 inches slices ginger, peel on
8-10 pieces of cilantro, stems and leaves intact
1-2 Bird’s eye chilies with seeds, cut in half
Bring to a gentle boil for 10 minutes. Reduce heat and simmer 30 to 45 minutes. Pour into cup, leaving solids in the pot to continue to add flavor. Add a dash of organic tamari for some salty goodness and a squeeze of 1/4 of a lime for vitamin C and acidity. Drink and enjoy. I promise, this will create a cleansing moment or two fairly rapidly.

Here’s a great recipe we found on Pinterest. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/452822937518544661/

It’s called Turmeric-Ginger Chicken Soup. It will quickly replace your chicken noodle soup recipe because it is so hardy and full of healthy goodness. We actually used a quart or more of Rebecca Katz’s recipe for Magic Mineral Broth (MMB) from her cookbook The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen as part of the water in the stock. Find the MMB recipe here

Turmeric Tuesday for November 22, 2016

by Andrew
Here’s a great way to include turmeric in your daily diet over the winter months. This hot tea will warm your cold bones and help detox at the same time. The addition of coconut oil and black pepper help with the bio-availability of the turmeric. This tea is loaded with great spices for the winter months.
Fill a two quart sauce pan halfway with filtered water and place on medium-high heat. Add to the pot a one to two inch “finger” of fresh turmeric, sliced. Then add an inch of sliced ginger. In a tea ball infuser or a tea bag if you have them, add one teaspoon each of cumin seeds, coriander seeds, and fennel seeds along with one or two pieces of star anise and drop into water. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer covered for 20-30 minutes. At this point you have a couple of different options. You can drink this tea as is with a little honey, a teaspoon of coconut oil and a grind of fresh black pepper or you can steep a tea bag of green, matcha, chamomile or a lemony tea bag for 5 minutes in a cup and then add the honey, coconut oil and black pepper.
Relax and enjoy the warmth and the detox.
