What we do??

by Andrew

Good morning and Happy Thursday!! I am Drew Klutz , the founder of Mama Edna’s Thrift Shop by The Mama Edna Project. Mama Edna was the mother of my life partner TR McLamb. She was a giver, a thrifter and always paying it forward. As we get closer to the end of week four of our opening, I want to say thanks to everyone who has made our new shop a dream come true for me after 42 years of retail management. Our mission is simple: feed more people in need across our state. The hunger crisis in Norh Carolina is worsening everyday and we can longer sit by and allow this process of food insecurity to worsen. With collaboration, community and compassion, we can build even stronger networks to be sure food is getting to the places it is most needed.

Our mission is to act as a cash flow for multiple food assistance programs. We are not a food pantry (YET). We are a nonprofit thrift store, selling gently used itmes to drive more cash into existing programs. In the last 12 years, we have donated to Dorcas Ministries, Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, Durham Rescue Mission, and Restoration Church in Willow Springs. This month, we are partnering with Chef Sera Cuni at Feed-Well Fridges to buy two more fridges as well as cash to fill them. Let’s all find ways to make food more accessible to those in need. Plant a Row for the Hungry, Johnston County is just one great program that every community can adopt. Every household can also join in and grow a few items.

Let’s end the hunger crisis in North Carolina!! #volunteer #carythrift #endhunger #foodsecurity #GiftItForward #NoKidHungry #carync #carythrift #downtowncary #downtownraleigh
